COMMONWEALTHS There are four commonwealths they are Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Kentucky. If you are wondering what is the difference between a commonwealth and a state well there isn’t any! Commonwealth means For the good of all. Kentucky decided that when it became its own state (or split from Virginia) it would stay commonwealth. It split of became its own state in 1792 so it also became a commonwealth in 1792. KENTUCKY! Our home land. Kentucky is the 15th state even though it could have been the 14th state In other words it could have been the 1st state to be added to the 13 original colonies but then Vermont beat Kentucky to the honor by more than a year. Other than that Kentucky was the first state formed west of the Allegheny Mountains.
Slaves made up one sixth of Kentucky’s population when it 1st became a state.
Also Kentucky is the horse race state!!! Our most famous kind of horse is the Thoroughbred! We also have the Keeneland racing track!!! Kentucky has a nickname the bluegrass state they call Kentucky the bluegrass state. It is called that because in the spring there are blue blossoms and when the wind blows it makes the grass have a bluish tint. We have many tourist attractions like Keen land and natural bridge we also have one of the most famous tourist attractions MAMMOTH CAVE it is located in the pennyroyal region. I will tell you about the regions of Kentucky. The regions of Kentucky are: Bluegrass, Pennyroyal, Jackson Purchase, Western coal field, Eastern mountains and coal field, and knobs. Here are natural recourses facts and other info on the regions. Knobs: The knobs surround the bluegrass region n all sides except the north. The knobs region got its name from the mountains that look like knobs. A natural recourse they have is trees. Bluegrass: The blue grass got its name from the blossoms in the spring that when the wind blows that the grass looks bluish. The bluegrass is surrounded by the knobs on all sides except the north the Ohio river borders the bluegrass on the north. The river water is one of the bluegrass’s natural recourse. Jackson Purchase: the Jackson purchase got its name by Andrew Jackson, Andrew Jackson purchased this particle of land. A natural recourse in the Jackson purchase is Cotton. This region is the only region in Kentucky that has natural swamps. Western coalfield: This region was named by all the coal there. Eastern mountain and coal field: It was named from all the coal there and also there is the Appalachian mountains.
